Commuter Benefits (Illinois Residents)
Pre-tax commuter benefits let you save money on your commute by using pre-tax dollars for eligible transit and parking expenses. Illinois employees can enroll in transit and/or parking benefits. Once enrolled, you’ll have separate transit and parking accounts through Fidelity – funds cannot be transferred between accounts. These benefits apply only to your commuting expenses; spouses and dependents are not eligible.
What to Expect When You Enroll
- Tax Savings – Contributions are deducted pre-tax each month.
- Convenience – Use the NetBenefits CommuterCard for easy payment of qualified expenses.
- Flexible Spending – If a purchase exceeds your monthly election, you can pay the balance with another form of payment.
Monthly Maximums
The IRS sets monthly limits for pre-tax commuter benefits. For 2026, the maximum is $340 for parking and $340 for transit. Deductions are taken from your last paycheck of each month.
NetBenefits CommuterCard
CF Industries partners with Fidelity to manage commuter benefits. After enrolling at www.NetBenefits.com, you’ll receive a CommuterCard that can be used to:
- Buy transit passes, tokens, or fare cards at valid terminals,
- Pay for parking near your workplace or commuter lot, or
- Link to your NetBenefits online account and track your activity.
Your election must be entered into Fidelity by the 15th of the month to apply for that month’s deduction.
If your card balance doesn’t cover a purchase, you can split the payment with another form of payment.
